When the school day is over, children are ready to unwind and be themselves. They want excitement, not the same old routine of school, especially since much of today’s extracurricular activities have been cut from the school day.
Established as a 501(c)(3) non for profit organization, KJones Learning Center’s purpose is to provide a place where students feel safe, welcomed, and encouraged to excel educationally as well as personally. Between the hours of 3pm - 6pm, youth are victims of death, crime, early parenting, and so forth. KJones Learning Center strives to close this three hour window of unconstructive possibilities by providing tutoring, homework help, mentoring, Fun and Games!
Our goal is to create a warm, open environment where students feel safe enough to be themselves, ask questions, seek answers, explore possibilities, maximize opportunities, and become the unique person they have been destined to become.
To best serve youth, we use a holistic approach rather than a single approach of “education only.” While EDUCATION is a main objective of KJones Learning Center, our holistic approach is comprised of education, mentoring, sports, performing arts, applied arts, family and consumer arts and free play.
KJones Learning Center was founded by Kameelah Jones, a dedicated educator and mentor for over half her life. She is dedicated to positively impacting today's youth, not only because she LOVES young people, but because she knows first hand what it feels like to be mentored by people who care. She says, “If it were not for the mentors God sent along my teenage journey, who knows where I would be today? Somebody cared enough about me to help me along the way and I must do the same for the young people of this generation. This is why I do what I do, and I LOVE doing it!"
Our staff consists of certified teachers and qualified volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. We believe in the power of building RAPPORT. When rapport is built with young people, success is inevitable.
KJones Learning Center earns its accolades for its continuous success with improving students' test scores, improving students' grades, and improving students' conduct both in the classroom and at home.
One of the most challenging obstacles of student achievement is self esteem. At KJones Learning Center, youth are groomed to develop a sense of independence and to trust in their abilities to become independent learners.
Each month, youth discuss their academic and behavior goals with a KJLC mentor, discussing their feelings of themselves and their capabilities. Afterwards, mentors encourage and coach youth to achieve their personal best, checking in weekly to discuss progress made.
Society portrays a generation of youth who lack self-respect and respect for others. At KJones Learning Center, respect is modeled, taught, and expected. At KJones Learning Center, we believe wholeheartedly that we must be the change we wish to see in our youth.
